Sesame seed is one of the oilseed crops grown in Ethiopia. Sesame (Sesamum indicum L.) is one of the oldest cultivated plants in the world. Today, India and China are the world's largest producers of sesame, followed by Burma, Sudan, Mexico, Nigeria, Venezuela, Turkey, Uganda and Ethiopia.

Agro-Ecological Conditions: The growth of sesame is in determinant, as the plant continues to produce leaves and flowers so longs as the weather permits. Weighing roughly one ounce each, seeds of lighter colors are considered of higher quality. Sesame is drought tolerant though not tolerant of water logging.

While it has the potential to grow in different parts of the country, sesame grows mainly in the northern and northwestern regions of Ethiopia (Humera and Wellega). For areas with shorter rainy season periods, the planting period should fall immediately after the onset of the rainy period (June to mid-September). The planting period for areas with longer rainy seasons (late May to October) the planting period should fall in the middle of that period, during which the farmer can benefit from both the rain and sun. Additionally, sesame seed can grow well in lowland/humid areas with altitudes of up to 1,250m with preferred rainfall of 500-800mm.

Domestic Production: In 2005/06, Ethiopia's volume of main season sesame seed production was .16 million tons. During the same year, sesame seed accounted for 1.2 % of major crops production (including oilseeds and pulses). For the period, 1998/99-2005/06, main season production of sesame seed, on average, accounted for 0.5% of total national major crop production that includes cereals, pulses and oilseeds. In the last five years, the main season yield of sesame seed has reached a high of .89 tons per hectare.

Commercialization: Crop utilization survey data shows that, of the total national production of sesame seed, 32.31% was utilized for household consumption, 57.66% for sale; while the balance was used for seed, wage in kind, and animal feed.

In general, research result shows that, excluding the volume of grain set aside for consumption, seed and feed, 28% of total grain production (including oilseeds and pulses) is marketed, of which 40% is accounted for by oil seed crops in general.

Global Scenario: Ethiopia is a major sesame seed exporter in the world market. In 2005/06 Ethiopia exported 237, 565 tons valued at about 197.9 million USD (84 million Birr), accounting for roughly 94% of the total export earning from oilseeds and 19% of total national export earning. This increase in global demand has turned the highly domestic consumption item into an important export commodity. The world production of sesame seed, in 2004, reached 3.3 million tons in 2004, with world exports totaling 802,063 /valued at 650 million USD/ and volume of world imports reaching 903,368 tons /valued at 846 million USD/.

Specification

Purity: 99% MIN

Oil Content: 50% MIN

Color: Whitish

Moisture Content: 6% MAX

Impurities: 1.0% MAX

Export

Sun, 09 Jun 2019 12:25:37 +0000 admin 128 at http://teklayberhane.com Coffee http://teklayberhane.com/coffee Coffee admin Sun, 06/09/2019 - 13:39

We are one of the exporters of Arabica Coffee from its home land, Ethiopia to our clients world wide. Our finest coffee is grown in the shade of native trees which allow the coffee cherries to retain moisture until they are ready to be picked and protect our coffee from producing bitter tasting and inferior quality beans.

Export

Sun, 09 Jun 2019 11:39:04 +0000 admin 156 at http://teklayberhane.com Green Mung Beans http://teklayberhane.com/green-mung-beans Green Mung Beans admin Mon, 05/27/2019 - 10:48

Domestic Scenario: Mung bean is known locally as “Masho”. It is a recent introduction in the Ethiopian pulse production and grown in few areas of the country. The volume of production is also very small and it is concentrated mainly in North Shewa and South Wollo zones of Amhara region and in some woredas of Beneshalgul Gumuz region.

Product Varieties: Mung beans are small, ovoid (and sometimes cylindrical) in shape with a bright green skin. They have green skin hence they are also called green beans. The ECX Mung bean contract classifies the bean in to two varieties by production area. These are: Green Mung Bean Shoa and Green Mung Bean Asossa type.

Agro-Ecological Conditions: Mung bean is a warm season annual legume which is a drought resistant crop with an optimum temperature range of 27- 30°C for good production. It is very early maturing quick crop, requiring 75–90 days to mature. Best adaptation areas for Mung bean are at 1,000-1,650 meters above sea elevation level; with annual rainfall of 600-750mm, its production in Ethiopia is most suited with clay loam fluvsol, clay eutric fluvisol, and pellic vertisol types of soil. It is usually sown at “Belge” lean season between Februarys to April and “Mehere” between Julys to August when the rain starts to end. Domestic Production: Mung bean productivity in Ethiopia is estimated to be on average from 12 up to 15 Qt. /ha with a volume of production is increasing year to year. Amhara and Beneshangul Gumuz regions are the two potential production areas of green Mung bean.

Commercialization: Although green Mung bean is commonly used in some other countries, it is little consumed in Ethiopia even by those who produce it. It is only produced as a cash crop to generate income by selling it to exporters. Regional Agricultural Bureaus and market actors estimate that close to 90% of the total production is marketable surplus

Global Scenario: In 2015/2016, Ethiopia exported a total of 30,694 MT of green Mung bean with a value of 35.8 million USD. Compared to export performance of to 2014/2015, the export volume and value grew up by 21% and 23%, respectively. The major export destinations for Ethiopian green Mung bean are: Indonesia, India, Belgium, UAE, and Singapore. Other major global players in Mung bean import comprises: USA, Netherlands, UK, Canada, France, Germany, Norway, Sweden, and Malaysia.

Specification

Purity: 98% MIN

Color: Green

Moisture Content: 13% MAX

Add mixture/Impurities: 2% MAX

Germination: Over 90% MAX

Export

Mon, 27 May 2019 08:48:08 +0000 admin 139 at http://teklayberhane.com Soya Beans http://teklayberhane.com/soya-beans Soya Beans admin Mon, 05/27/2019 - 10:47

We export soya beans originated from Ethiopia. If it is refined sunflower oil, then it looks clear and has the color of light amber. There is a fatty odor of this oil when you keep it at room temperature. It has high nutritional values. It contains saturated fat, energy, vitamin E, and K, etc. Chemical solvents can be used to extract this oil.
